The Gateway Arch

How long has it been since you’ve taken in the breathtaking view of our city from atop the Gateway Arch? Spend time in the newly revamped museum, which depicts America’s history, then squeeze into the tram, which will take you 630 feet up to the observation area at the top of the Arch. Be sure to purchase your Tram tickets ahead of time.

Summer – Daily 8am – 10pm (the last tram leaves one hour before closing).

Winter – Daily 9am – 6pm (the last tram leaves one hour before closing).

The park grounds are open from 5:00am–11:00pm year-round.

Crown Candy

While you’re downtown enjoying the sights, be sure to stop by Crown Candy for a step back in time. Crown Candy’s throwback decor is a nod to its roots, as it opened in 1913 and is still family-owned and operated. While Crown Candy is most known for its soda fountain desserts and candy, their lunches and dinners are yummy, as well. Check out their menu on their webpage.

Griot Black History Museum

The Griot Museum aims to gather, preserve, and share the stories, culture, and history of Black people, especially those with a connection to American History. They do this through the use of life-size wax figures, art, and artifacts to interpret the stories of African Americans. Their program contains an authentic slave cabin. They also offer puzzles, documentaries, and a model of part of a ship that replicates those used to transport Africans to America during the Slave Trade.

Inside the Economy Museum

You are never too young to learn about our nation’s economy.  Kids of all ages will enjoy the interactive displays, games, and videos. The Economy Museum is inside the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which is one of twelve Reserve banks making up the nation’s central bank. The best part of all?  Learning about the economy here is FREE!

The National Blues Museum explores the Blues and celebrates the genre as the foundation of all modern American music. South Broadway Art Project

St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station

St. Louis has a brand new aquarium to explore!  You will see everything from alligator snapping turtles to zebra sharks, have an unforgettable otter encounter, along with other animal experiences. Explore the interactive galleries and aquarium exhibits. Pre-purchasing tickets online will ensure you don’t have a long wait, though tickets sell out fast, so plan ahead. In addition to the aquarium, St. Louis now has a 200-foot tall observation wheel where you can enjoy 360-degree views of the St. Louis skyline. Gondolas are climate controlled, which makes this a fun way to see the city, any time of the year! Near the St. Louis wheel is a brand new mini-golf course that is ADA accessible. There is also a Carousel, a Ropes Course, and as a throwback to the 1904 World’s Fair, a Mirror Maze.

Upper Limits

Do you feel like the kids are climbing the walls?  Well, then bring them to Upper Limits, where that sort of energy and athleticism is encouraged!  Upper Limits has large arches and bouldering areas. Baked T’s

Baked T’s is a custom t-shirt design studio in the historic Delmar Loop. In addition to online and group orders, the shop can make shirts while-you-wait, using their own artwork or artwork that you provide. The standard design time is 15 minutes, and you can design t-shirts or sweatshirts. Bring your kids to create their own shirts, and enjoy exploring The Loop while you wait. You can even make a shirt for your dog! Wait Time is conveniently displayed on their website, so you know before you go how busy they are. As a bonus, a portion of their proceeds goes to local area charities.

Enjoy swimming at the Center of Clayton’s indoor pool this winter.  It has a water slide, a lazy river, a vortex, and lap lanes. There is also a toddler play area for the little ones.

The Heights

Come visit The Heights, which is a community center in Richmond Heights. Join their Open Swims where you can slide down a two-story water slide, float along the lazy river, or spin around in the vortex. For the younger kids, there is a Children’s Play Area.

Historic Aircraft Restoration Museum 

Located at the Creve Coeur Airport in Maryland Heights, over 50 antique airplanes are available to get up close and personal with. There are even a few guests can explore inside!

As you enter Pottery Hollow, you are inspired by the kid-friendly decor created to inspire whimsy and imagination. As the story goes, a potter lived in a magical forest and created stunning ceramic pieces.  He had pottery fairies to paint them, yet they were so small that they couldn’t do all of the whimsical pieces the Potter created. He stored his pottery deep in the forest as he waited for an apprentice to help him and his fairies. So, the Potter needs YOU to help him! History Clubhouse at The Missouri History Museum 

Learning history is a hands-on experience at the History Clubhouse, an interactive space specially designed for families. Explore downtown St. Louis, with re-creations of iconic buildings that stand up to 15 feet tall. Then take a trolley ride back in time to serve food at a café during the 1904 World’s Fair, pilot a steamboat on the Mississippi River, and playhouse in the ancient city of Cahokia. Butterfly House

Faust Park is home to the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House, which creates a natural habitat for butterflies.  While you’re there, visit the tropical conservatory to walk among the butterflies. For the little ones, the Butterfly House offers Caterpillar Corner, and the Exploration Station play areas. Finally, in the theater, enjoy watching The Butterfly Effect and learn more about these gorgeous creatures.

Candle Opera

At Candle Opera, you can create custom scented candles with your kids.  The first step is selecting a container, of which they have a wide assortment of sizes and colors to choose from.  Second, you select your favorite scents.  Finally, mix the scented oils together and swirl the oil into hot wax.  It will take about 2 hours for your candle to set, and you can use some of that time to browse their extensive shop or come back to pick it up at a later date.

Des Peres Lodge

The Lodge offers a unique indoor swimming experience to keep you splashing all winter long. Their wave pool doubles as a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool. You will be able to “travel” to space in a unique space transporter.
