Being an “Amazon Prime Mom” in a world full of “Pinterest Moms” on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day ideas have slowly started sneaking their way into my Pinterest feed. Target has been ready for the upcoming holiday for a few weeks now, and it would appear that llamas and sloths are very “in” this season. And on Facebook I’ve already started to see posts about how to make the day special for your kids. Have you seen the one about putting a heart on your child’s bedroom door everyday with something you love about them? It’s a super cute idea, but I don’t know if I could honestly remember to do that everyday for 14 days in a row…

Valentine’s Day is on a Thursday this year. A Thursday. A Thursday means I’ll spend most of the day at work, and my daughter will spend most of the day at school. Thursdays also mean swim lessons for an hour in the evenings…basically, I blink and Thursdays are over.

I’d love to say that we’re going to have time to make homemade Valentines crafts that day, or go on a special Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt, but those things just aren’t going to happen. In a world full of Pinterest-moms, I’m definitely an Amazon Prime mom. I hope that there are other moms out there like me – who have a lot on their plate, and tend to make the “magic” happen at the last-minute. I wanted to share a couple of easy, simple, same-day ideas to help make this particular Thursday a little more special than most. All you need? Amazon Prime, Netflix, and food!

Breakfast:

I found this heart-shaped waffle maker the other day – how cute would those be in the morning? Waffle/Pancake batter is pretty easy to throw together, and the description says that it heats up in minutes. The heart waffle it makes looks like the perfect size for kids too! It’s also small and lightweight – so easy to tuck away in the back of a cabinet for the rest of the year. I was also thinking I could whip up a festive, pink smoothie (milk + strawberry yogurt + banana + frozen strawberries – or fresh strawberries and ice) for my daughter to enjoy with her waffle.

Lunch:

My daughter takes a sandwich everyday in her lunch – but I know she would think that a heart-shaped one is extra fun! I found this heart-shaped sandwich cutter on Amazon recently, and immediately added it to my cart. It also comes with 3 other sandwich cutters, and 6 smaller, fruit/veggie cutters – including a smaller heart!

Spaghetti – it’s easy and it’s red! Or if I’m feeling truly inspired – I plan on picking up a frozen cheese pizza for dinner, and topping it with heart-shaped pepperoni (using the smaller, heart-shaped fruit/veggie cutter that comes with the heart-shaped sandwich cutter that I’ll be using for her lunch).

After Dinner:

Hot chocolate and a movie!  We always have hot chocolate packets in the pantry during winter time, but throw in a couple of heart-shaped marshmallows and it becomes extra special (using the smaller, heart-shaped fruit/veggie cutter that comes with the heart-shaped sandwich cutter that I’ll be using for her lunch)! I’m hoping Netflix will have a few more Valentine’s Day selections as we get closer to the 14th, but for right now, Beauty and the Beast or A Cinderella Story look like good options to watch as we enjoy our lovely hot cocoa.

And to end the day, a special bath! My 1st grader is already obsessed with bath bombs – so I thought one or two of these heart-shaped ones would be fun to add to her bath!

Do you have any simple, same-day Valentine’s Day ideas or traditions that you wouldn’t mind sharing? Cause sometimes this Amazon Prime mom likes to make things a little more Pinteresting 😉
