When we first moved to St. Louis and were looking for a home, we searched the city far and wide. There were so many options and different vibes within each area, but ultimately we landed in Eureka.
Being a transplant to the STL area, we wanted a home with space to grow, and a smaller town feel. But we still wanted to be close to the greater metropolitan area. Eureka gave us just what we were looking for. With a small town, everybody-knows-everybody feel, I am still able to get pretty much anywhere I want to go in the Lou within 30 minutes or so. With the accessibility to 44, it is easy to hop on and zip wherever we need to go. This sleepy little town offers several unique shops but is also widely known for Six Flags. But what do we do in Eureka? Here are some of the activities and outings we enjoy most:
The Timbers of Eureka is an excellent option for summer swimming, workouts (with free childcare!), and lots of activities, including Tumbling Tots and Ooey Gooey Messy Play for the younger crowd. They also offer spring break and summer camps.
Of course, Six Flags is an obvious attraction for families. This list would not be complete without mentioning this fun and buzzing amusement park. Fun fact, you can get discounted tickets to Six Flags if purchased at The Timbers (listed above).
Eureka also boasts multiple hiking and nature trails that are beautiful and great for burning some energy. These trails will eventually connect the town’s parks, including Route 66 State Park.
Eureka Days is probably one of the most widely celebrated and attended events each year. Held in September, the whole town really gets into the festivities! With a carnival, vendors, live bands, and good food, it is a family fun event for all!
The Route 66 Bar-B-Que Competition is one of the most delicious events of the year. You can enjoy live music, car shows, hayrides, a petting zoo, and more!
Central Avenue Block Party kicks off the summer right in the heart of downtown Eureka, and features live music and delicious food and beverages from local businesses in Old Towne Eureka.
There are many more events throughout the year, as well.
Super Smokers BBQ is a cult favorite not just among those living in Eureka, but people from all over! It is a huge staple to the community, and you can find the best BBQ here.
Sarah’s on Central has a delectable dining menu and the BEST cake pops you will ever buy! They also create beautiful cakes and pastries. You must stop by and see for yourself!
Melvin Brewing Company is one of our favorites, but not just for the food and craft beer. They have a cozy patio, so when the weather permits, it is a great place to dine and bring the kids!
Brookdale Farms features all sorts of events and festivals throughout the year, including the hot air balloon festival and one of the best corn mazes you can imagine! It is so much fun for all.
Hidden Valley Ski Resort also has roots near Eureka. You can buy passes for both skiing and tubing, and they update their site daily with their snow report. This hidden gem is a fun way to introduce littles to skiing and tubing without spending a fortune.
As you can see, we have enjoyed exploring our little town nestled right outside of St. Louis. Come visit and enjoy a day in Old Towne Eureka!
