Spring Cleaning: 3 DIY Tips to Freshen Up Your Home

These simple spring cleaning tips will have your home fresh and clean in no time!

Spring is on its way and with it comes lots of sunshine! While I adore the sun and the warmer weather, I hate that all I can see is the dust and dirt once that bright sunlight shines in my windows. Yuck. A couple of times a year, I enjoy hiring a cleaning service to do my major dirty work, but it’s just not in our budget monthly. So here I am…stepping into spring armed with my cleaning supplies to brighten our lives and rid ourselves of the “winter blah”.

These are the three things that make me the craziest and my tips to get them clean and shiny!

SPRING CLEANING: BASEBOARDS

Two things I hate – dirty baseboards and cleaning dirty baseboards. I have tried so many time-saving ideas and hacks, but at the end of the day, soap, water, and a rag are all that really does it for me! Thanks to Frugally Blonde, I learned that the game changer is using a microfiber cloth vs. an old t-shirt or towel.

What you need:

  • Bucket of warm water
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • Microfiber cloth (several great ones on Amazon!)
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

What to do:

  1. Mix approximately 1 tablespoon of Dawn into your bucket of warm water.
  2. Dip your microfiber cloth into the mixture.
  3. Wring out excess water.
  4. Begin wiping down your baseboards with the cloth. Rinse and re-wet cloth, as needed.
  5. If you have scuff marks, you can use the Magic Eraser to wipe them off. (Frugally Blonde Pro Tip: test it in a closet first as they can remove paint.)
  6. Done!

SPRING CLEANING: TUB & SHOWER

spring cleaning supplies vinegar, soap, and dish wandsLet’s be real … tubs and showers are NASTY! Everyone gets clean in there, but they end up just plain gross. I used this hack from Joyful Homemaking last year, and I was absolutely stunned by the results. It’s super simple and super worth it!

What you need:

  • Vinegar
  • Dawn Dish Soap
  • One Dish Wand
  • Elbow Grease!

What to do:

  1. Fill wand with half vinegar and half dish soap.
  2. Run a little water in your tub or shower.
  3. Start scrubbing.
  4. Rinse and voila!

SPRING CLEANING: STOVETOP

I don’t know about you, but no matter how hard I try, my stovetop always looks like a baked-on mess. This hack from Slay at Home Mother has saved me numerous times from losing my mind over cleaning the stove!

What you need:

  • Baking Soda
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Mixing Dish
  • Sponge (abrasive is best)
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Paper Towels
  • Elbow Grease!

What to do:

  1. Wipe stovetop to remove loose food or dust.
  2. Mix 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide and 2 tablespoons baking soda in a small dish.
  3. Dip your sponge in the mixture and begin scrubbing your stovetop. Wipe away the excess mixture with your paper towel as it darkens.
  4. Once you have scrubbed the whole stovetop, use glass cleaner to wipe away the cloudiness left behind.
  5. Your stove should now sparkle (at least more than it did before)!

Note: I have an electric glass (flat) stovetop, and it works wonders. I imagine it’ll work just as great if you remove your burners on a standard stovetop.

Try them out and let me know what you think! Hopefully, they ease your spring cleaning woes while saving you time and frustration.
